BEDFORDSHIRE PUBS & INNS

BEDFORD
KINGS ARMS
This inn dates in part to the 16 C, and at some point in its long history the upstairs was used as a mortuary. Rather unusually, there is a coffin shaped door above the bar, believed to be for the removal of coffins from upstairs. The Kings Arms has two ghosts, one, an old looking man being seen in the cellar. The second is quieter and usually the only sign they are there is the sound of footsteps upstairs and a ‘cold’ atmosphere.

BLETSOE
THE FALCON INN
The ghost of a young boy haunts this pub, and has been seen in the gardens, and inside the pub itself. It is believed to be one of the more active Bedfordshire ghosts.

DUNSTABLE
THE OLDE SUGARLOAF
A ghostly figure of a male has been seen here in the bar area, along with other sightings from 2009. The man may be the unhappy spirit of someone who supposedly hung themselves from a rafter in one of the upstairs rooms, although details are scarce as to who this may be, or why they took their own life.

FLITWICK
THE SWAN
The Swan is haunted by a ‘jovial’ spirit, responsible for moving things about in the pub.

LINSLADE
BUCKINGHAM ARMS
An unseen apparition haunts this particular pub, and little is known about who they are, or why they haunt this place. It makes itself known by opening the gate to the premises, then knocks loudly upon the front door….they run heavily up the stairs, and bang doors. In the cellar, they can be heard smashing and banging barrels, but when investigated, nothing in the premises had been touched. From local knowledge, I was told that landlords do not seem to stay long in this particular pub – too noisy perhaps?

LUTON
THE CORK & BULL PUB
The figure of a ‘grey lady’ has been seen outside,  having wandered, it seems from a nearby church. Who she is, or why she walks this route time and again, is unknown.

NEWPORT PAGNELL
KINGS ARMS
The ghostly image of a monk has been photographed here, as well as sightings of a white shadowy figure.

PULLOXHILL
CROSS KEYES
Another ‘grey lady’ seen here by several people including staff and customers.

RISELEY
FOX & HOUNDS
Ghostly sounds have been heard here, believed to be the spirit of a young girl who was killed in a nearby coaching accident. Her body was taken to the pub, and it seems she has stayed there every since.

SILSOE
THE OLD GEORGE
Supposedly haunted by a beautiful ‘grey lady’

TEMPSFORD
THE ANCHOR HOTEL
We received an email from someone who has stayed at the Anchor recently, after they experienced the presence of a male ghost in the room they were staying in. They believe  It is possible that this is the ghost of a previous owner, killed in a car crash. A female spirit has also been photographed inside the hotel, but accounts on this, and other hauntings are difficult to find.

TODDINGTON
THE BELL INN
The spirit of a former landlords daughter haunts this particular in. Dating from the 19 C, she died of a seizure after being put in a room ‘to vent her anger’. Her spirit is still active, and has been known to move items, and throw utensils around the pub.

TODDINGTON
THE BEDFORD ARMS
A ghostly Cavalier haunts the Bedford Arms, often seen standing by a small fireplace in the small bar area. The pub is also believed to have the spirit of an old man, who hung himself from one of the rafters after finding his wife and child murdered.

TODDINGTON
THE SOW & PIGS
This particular cloaked figure is reported to haunt the mens lavatory! Who he is, or why he haunts there is unknown.

WOBURN
THE ROYAL OAK
This unseen apparition is known for moving things around, imparting a ‘chilling atmosphere'.
