KELVEDON HATCH 2011
We had previously investigated Kelvedon Hatch in 2010, and had some good results from our time there. We wanted to return with different people to see if the same 'phenomena' recorded in 2010 could be found again. Our 2011 Investigation consisted of 10 people - 6 GPS Group members and 4 friends. Only 2 people present in 2011 were at the the 2010 Investigation and they did not pass on any information about the findings they had made to the group. (nor was the 2010 Investigation available on the Website at the time). As before, no information was made available to the group who had not been to Kelvedon before. The main aim of the evening was to see if we could experience any of the findings from 2010.Unlike 2010, there were no 'Psychics' in the group although most of them there would say they believed in some degree in 'Paranormal' phenomena very few had experienced it firsthand - most would agree that until they 'experienced' something themselves firsthand they were a little sceptical. As with the 2010 report, this is a very short version of events due to time and space limitations. Due to the ammount of information obtained, we are still in the process of going through and evaluating findings.
EARLY EVENING
After walking through the Bunker the lights were turned off with only the main stairwell lights being left on for safety. We began in the Main corridor (from the bungalow entrance to the bunker itself). Due to the size of the group we remained in a group of 8 at all times with the other 2 members acting as 'Control'.We decided to start at the main entrance corridor, and walk through the building - if any areas seemed to be 'active' or people experinced anything, we would investigate further. The evening was quiet to begin with - we tried 'rapping' (once for yes, twice for no) sessions in most of the first floor rooms with little success, and most agreed that there didn't seem to be anything there. In one of the rooms the faint sound of music and footsteps were heard by one of the group, but it was felt that this could have come from the Bungalow located at the entrance hallway (which we think would have been above the room we were in) or from the 2 control members who were setting up various trigger objects around the Bunker at the time.A number of photographs were taken during this time, but nothing was recorded - not even 'orbs' we could attribute to dust or flare. We returned to the Control Room and moved onto Floor 2, which in 2010 was one of the most 'active' locations.
B.B.C ROOM
The Room used as the 'BBC' Room (to broadcast) was the first room in which any Phenomena was experienced. While using the 'tap once for yes, twice for no method clear 'taps' were heard in response to our questions. One group member said they saw a 'light' by another group member, in a doorway and at this time a light anomaly was filmed in the place they saw it. The group member standing by the doorway complained that their hand was suddenly "very cold".A photograph was taken at the time, and was the only one taken in this room that showed an 'anomaly' of any type in the form of a small 'orb' in the doorway.
TYPEWRITER ROOM
As with 2010 - the 'Typewriter Room' was one of the most 'active' locations. Although we did not photograph any anomalies in this room as before, we did encounter more electrical malfunctions that could not be explained. 2 members of the group were wearing 'walkie talkies' which had been turned on all evening, but had remained unused and silent About 10 minutes into the session in the Typewriter room one of the walkie talkies started emitting a 'static' sound on its own - as though someone had pressed the talk button. As this happened the person wearing the walkie talkie turned on their torch to check it, but the torch (which had worked fine all evening) started flashing intermitently on and off and then a DVD player located across the room from the group turned itself on and started playing. - all three occurences had happened within seconds of each other and were witnessed by the entire group present in the room. A temperature gun also recorded wild fluctuations around the room in various areas - as though a cold breeze was 'moving' around the room - it was felt on the backs of people's necks and moving across hands. After this it remained quiet in the typewriter room, so we moved into the larger room next to it (which in 2010 had been the room people were convinced they were 'followed' into)
ROOM 2
Room 2 is one of the largest areas in the Bunker, and consists of a Secretarial part, a 'Dressing up' section and a tableaux of scenes with some rather eerie looking dummies! Until this time our photographs (taken by different people) had shown very little and in comparison to 2010 we had not recorded any light 'anomalies' other than one small 'orb' in the BBC Room. The GPS member who had experienced the 'cold' feeling in the BBC Room, once again said they felt 'cold' . In 2010 females seemed to be more 'affected' by being in Kelvedon, so we asked this person to walk forward on their own so we could photograph them. As before, there were numerous 'orbs' around the room, and particularly around this one person - again, it seemed as if they were being 'followed'
Also seen by members of the group was a ceiling light (the strip light type) going on and off. All lights on the floor had been turned off, and only one end of the light flashed on and off - we did look for a light switch for this, but could only find one that controlled all the ceiling lights in the room. A photograph was taken, and there is a small light anomally (just at the top edge of the picture)
SEANCE
We decided to hold a Seance using a Ouija Board and Glass in this room as it had seemed the most active location that evening. 4 GPS members participated including 1 from the 2010 investigation. So as not to 'influence' things with prior knowledge the one participant from 2010 would do little in the wy of asking for information, nor would they comment on any replies until after the session.Unfortunately, we had fogotten our own usual Ouija Board but one was found in the Bunker (we assumed a previous group had made it) so this was used - it was larger than our usual board and at times there were 4 fingers on the glass, but as it moved further left or right, only 2 people would have their fingers on it. From past experience, we have found that with 4 people the glass moves relatively well, but when we have tried with 2 it has moved slowly, or not moved at all so given the size of the board, and only 4 participants we were not expecting a smoothly flowing session! the other 6 people present chose not to participate, but to observe.Despite our reservations about the board we were using, the session was an extremely successful one - and by far one of the best we have ever had during any Investigation!!The glass moved strongly around the board, whether we had 2 or 4 people participating at the time.
The session will be transcribed in full, but brief details are given below.
- The 'spirit' gave his name as William, and described himself as a 'layabout'
- He worked at Kelvedon Hatch during the 60s
- He did not die there, but did not seem to like 'talking' about his death
- He particularly liked one of the group (a female)
- When told that this female was soon to be married he replied 'shame'...
- He likes to follow visitors around the Hatch
- He said there were other 'spirits' in the venue including a child, but he was alone.
- When asked about this child he said they had drowned***
- He had been married, and had a family but most were now dead.
***During our 2010 investigation one group participant had mentioned that they had heard about skeletons being found in a storm drain on the land while Kelvedon Bunker was being constructed. at the time we did research this, but could find nothing to substantiate the claim, so we didn't pursue this any further,
During the session 'William' was asked to move the glass to indicate where he was in the room - the glass moved vigorously across the board at high speed and stopped next to the female he liked. When a male jokingly asked if he was sitting on his lap the glass flew across the board to the word 'no' - so quickly that at one point only one finger remained on the glass. The female who had seemed to attract 'Williams' attention said throughout the session that it felt as though her hand was being 'held' and that it had gone icy cold - when we asked her where William was she said 'holding my hand!" - this person, it should be added had not experienced any similar 'paranormal' phenomena before, and could not be accused of inventing or dramatising things - they were one of the group who was sceptical until they experienced things first hand! As we drew to the end of the session, we had our last 'strange' activity of the night. - A walkie talkie that had been dropped before the session (and we had decided to look for at the end) was found under the table in the middle of the participants legs. It may well have been dropped there before the session, but the photographs taken throughout the sessionwhich included under the table showed nothing there, and no-one felf a walkie talkie underfoot at any time during the session. The person who had lost it had also said on walking into the room that it was missing - which is why we had decided to look for it at the end as it could have been anywhere between the typewriter room and the large room we were now in. - How it got where it was we don't know....
CONCLUSION
The most intereseting finding was how similar the results were to our 2010 investigation - most 'activity' seeming to occur in certain rooms.
The Ouija Board session was one of the best we have had during an Investigation, and certainly one of the most entertaining, with ‘William’ (which was the name given by our ‘Psychic’ participants in 2010)
Is Kelvedon Hatch haunted?? – By our standards it is certainly ‘active’ – and we were fortunate that most of the activity experienced was by our more sceptical participants, however, it must be noted that to the die hard sceptics there will never be enough ‘proof’ obtained for them to believe in the Paranormal and/or ghosts, so our judgements are just that – Ours, and they may or may not be shared by others.
We hope to return to Kelvedon Hatch sometime in the future, as we still feel that there is far more to investigate there. And who knows, maybe next time ‘William’ may put in a personal appearance!
