This particular lane runs past the back of gardens, and dates from the 1940s when the surrounding houses were built. The trees lining the lane, however, are at least 150 years old. It may be that the tarmaced 'lane' replaced a much earlier thoroughfare. The 'lane' itself is approx.350feet in length, at one end it leads to a main road, the other leads into a residential area. Along the lane there is only 1 streetlight, in the middle, either side is trees and wooded areas. There is housing, but this is set back from the lane some 40-50feet - some much further back. From talking to a local resident, the 'lane' isn't used much after dark, as some areas are pitch black except for the odd light from windows. They had walked down it many times, having lived in their house (which backed onto the lane) for 30 years. The reason for my interest in the area, comes from reports that one particular area is said to be 'haunted', and that people have said while walking past there they feel they are 'being watched' The area is also supposedly 'permanently cold' - even on the hottest summer day.I had visited the area to find out some history, and background information, in preparation for a further investigation at a later date, and while there I took a quick walk up the lane, and took several photos. The area in question did feel colder, but it was a very cold night! The lane itself was very dark in places, and the lights from the road and houses were confusing at times, as it made it hard to look at anywhere without the light changing. One photo did show something unusual, the shape of what looked like a male figure, the face was quite clear. I thought this may have been a formation of leaves, but when I returned the following day, there were no bushes that dense in that area.
I showed the photo to the local resident I had spoken to, and they weren't surprised, as they themselves had often thought that area 'haunted' - and they even suspected that it was a male that was there 'watching them'....... Of course, it would require further investigation to establish whether this area is, indeed 'haunted'
