PAST LIFE REGRESSION:(or PLR) is the use of Hypnotherapy or deep relaxation techniques to access past lives stored in the subjects subconscious.
REGRESSION THERAPY: The belief that problems, phobias or ailments experienced in this life that cannot be rationally explained, or cured, may have been caused by events in a previous life.
By ‘revisiting’ past lives, it is believed that the cause of problems can be found, addressed and subsequently cured
The following accounts are from the Gateway Paranormal Society files.
Case 1
Date of Session: 2009
History of client:
The client in question had experienced from a young age, pains in their right shoulder blade. These pains started aged 12/13, and despite numerous medical investigations, X-rays, Chiropractice, etc… nothing could be found to explain the pain.
It became so bad, that they could not lie on their right hand side. The pain always seemed to start during the night, and occasionally was so bad the client would be in tears through the pain they felt.
I saw them when they were in their 30s, and they were still experiencing some pain in their shoulder, though, they admitted, it was nowhere near as bad as when they were younger.
As they were ‘interested’ in Past Lives, they agreed to undergo Hypnotherapy in order to see if the physical, unexplained pain they had experienced as a teenager bore any relation to a past life experience they may have had.
This is an abbreviated transcript of the session, which lasted about 45 minutes. Quite often when a person is regressed for the first time, they do not remember a great deal, subsequently, during further sessions, it becomes easier for them to remember things with greater clarity and detail. However, every client is different!
In this transcript of the session, the questions asked by the Hypnotherapist have been omitted, as most of the ‘memories’ came quite easily, without the need for prompting…
Client:
“…I’m in the country….England or Scotland…is it the border of Scotland?... .somewhere like Northumberland…It is the 12 century…..11 hundred and something I think…I’m not sure……
I’m male……aged about 11 or 12….I can see myself….I have long dark hair…. I’m wearing a smock made of brown…looks like wool….or sacking……
My father was the head of a tribe…or clan….in a village…he’s the leader of a small group of villagers…… he was the leader….I can see him…he wears a long brown ‘sack like’ dress…with a sash to the shoulder…on the shoulder he has a large round metal brooch…..a sign of his status….
We know in the village that we live in danger of attack….invaders…they come from across the sea….I think….
It is dark now….night….we are being attacked by the ‘invaders’…they are all male…very dark skinned (tanned, not black..)…they have very long hair…. Black
….and hair on their faces…..very long thin beards….on their faces…. They wear nothing on their torsos…..their bodies are large and strong…muscular… and they wear what looks like skirts…..
A fight took place during the night….. the villagers and invaders…. I could see fires in the blackness….I could see my father….I was there, in the fight…. I could see people, villagers…being attacked…..killed by the invaders…. We know we cannot win….Villagers are being stabbed and beheaded by the enemies swords …..so close to me…..the blood flows everywhere… It (the blood) was crimson red….dark red, like wine…..and thick and glossy….I could see the death and blood vividly……
My last thought is of me…..I am looking up….I must have fallen….. I am lying on my back on the ground….one of the invaders stands over me….I see his sword raised……he plunges it down…into my right shoulder…….I die……..
Analysis:
Past Life Regression is very much debated. Past lives, and whether they exist, are therefore a matter of personal opinion. However, in this case a few things warrant remembering when making a judgement.
- The client in question was female, and would never have believed they were male in a previous life. It is far easier to ‘make up’ things we know more about, rather than ‘create’ another persona.
- The client has no interest in the timescale in question, and knows little about the area, way of life,etc..again, if they ‘created’ this account, surely they would choosesomething they knew more about, or a time that interested them?
- The things they ‘saw’ were, in their opinion ‘nothing like films or T.V. – their own ‘memories’ were more vivid, the landscape bleaker, and they were ‘part’ of it – it was so realistic.
- The pain they experienced in their shoulder, was in the exact place they had ‘seen’ themselves being stabbed.
- Both in this life, and their ‘past’ life, the pain, and the stabbing had happened at around the same age.
As yet, the facts of this case have not been investigated fully. Things like dates, can be misleading when regression takes place. Our understanding of time nowadays is far more advanced than in the early 12 century. People living in rural villages at the time may not have recorded times, dates, years and events as well as we might expect, if at all, so validating the ‘facts’ can be difficult.
